The Fire
Overture:
The sirens blew!
The engines screamed!
The fire was near;
Or so it seemed
The engines screamed!
The fire was near;
Or so it seemed
The scene is set:
A growing throng
Rushed out to see
The all consum-
Ing tragedy.
Rushed out to see
The all consum-
Ing tragedy.
The darkest moment:
The flames roared high,
(‘Twas on a farm)
The firemen rang
The next alarm.
(‘Twas on a farm)
The firemen rang
The next alarm.
Panic:
A hose was brought,
The water flew;
But nobody
Knew what to do.
The water flew;
But nobody
Knew what to do.
The climax:
I wasn’t there.
But someone said,
“The roof caved in.”
(The flames were red)
But someone said,
“The roof caved in.”
(The flames were red)
Success:
The water drowned
The poor fire out.
The crowd had gone
Without a shout.
The poor fire out.
The crowd had gone
Without a shout.
Epilogue:
I also left.
I don’t know when
The firemen went
Back home again.
I don’t know when
The firemen went
Back home again.
