The Fire

[one_third]
Overture:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
The sirens blew!
The engines screamed!
The fire was near;
Or so it seemed
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]
The scene is set:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
A growing throng
Rushed out to see
The all consum-
Ing tragedy.
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]The darkest moment:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
The flames roared high,
(’Twas on a farm)
The firemen rang
The next alarm.
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]Panic: [/one_third] [one_third_last]
A hose was brought,
The water flew;
But nobody
Knew what to do.
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]The climax:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
I wasn’t there.
But someone said,
“The roof caved in.”
(The flames were red)
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]Success:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
The water drowned
The poor fire out.
The crowd had gone
Without a shout.
[/one_third_last] [clear]
[blankline]
[one_third]Epilogue:
[/one_third] [one_third_last]
I also left.
I don’t know when
The firemen went
Back home again.
[/one_third_last] [clear]
